Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi issued a stark ultimatum on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit today, stating that while Tehran prefers diplomacy, it is fully prepared for a return to "the battlefield."
Speaking at the Iranian Embassy, Araghchi described the current ceasefire as "unstable." He accused the United States of sending contradictory messages and shifting goalposts during indirect negotiations.
"We cannot trust the Americans in any way," Araghchi told reporters. He noted that messages received via mediators often conflict within the same day. He warned that "warmonger elements" are actively trying to pull Washington into a fresh conflict, adding, "I hope America does not make a mistake."
Nuclear Stance and the Strait of Hormuz
Reaffirming Iran’s long-standing policy, Araghchi stated that the Islamic Republic has never sought nuclear weapons and maintains a peaceful energy program.
Regarding maritime security, he clarified Iran's position on the Strait of Hormuz: the waterway remains open to all except nations at war with Iran. He emphasized that transit requires coordination with Iranian authorities but promised a return to "normal" once "U.S. aggression" ceases.
The Foreign Minister confirmed that Pakistan-mediated talks are still active but moving slowly. He blamed the lack of progress on "U.S. maximalist positions," claiming Washington frequently changes its objectives just as deals are finalized.
"We are ready for both scenarios," Araghchi concluded. "It is the other side that must choose."
