Authorities in Iran’s central Yazd province confirmed on Friday the successful defusal and removal of an unexploded U.S.-made "bunker buster" bomb.
The munition had remained lodged deep beneath a residential neighborhood following the recent military conflict involving U.S. and Israeli forces.
Esmaeil Dehestani, the Deputy Governor of Yazd for Political, Security, and Social Affairs, stated that the bomb was found buried 13 meters underground beneath a private home. The weapon was identified as a GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb (SDB), a precision-guided glide bomb designed to penetrate fortified structures.
The delicate recovery operation was a joint effort between the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) explosives disposal unit and provincial police.
"The operation was conducted with strict adherence to safety and security protocols," Dehestani said. He confirmed that the bomb was removed and transported to a secure location without causing any explosions or casualties.
Residents in the immediate area have since been cleared of the high-risk threat.
