Iran has not agreed to hand over its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, a senior Iranian source told Reuters on Sunday.
The source said Iran’s nuclear programme was not included in the preliminary understanding reached with the United States.
“The nuclear issue will be addressed in negotiations for a final agreement and is therefore not part of the current deal,” the source said. “There has been no agreement on shipping Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpile out of the country.”
Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that a possible memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington includes measures to ease tensions across the region.
According to the report, the agreement would allow shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz to return to pre-war levels within 30 days. It also said the naval blockade would be fully lifted during that period.
Tasnim added that part of Iran’s frozen funds could be released in the first phase of the agreement, while the United States may waive sanctions on Iranian oil exports during negotiations.
However, Iran has not yet accepted any commitments regarding its nuclear programme, the report said. The proposed framework reportedly sets a 60-day timeline for nuclear negotiations.
