The government has appointed Md Anis Ur Rahman, a former executive director of Bangladesh Bank (BB), as the central bank’s new deputy governor. Rahman will serve a three-year term on a contractual basis, according to a gazette notification issued on July 6.
Rahman succeeds Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, whose remaining contractual tenure was cancelled by the government. To take up the new role, Rahman must voluntarily retire from his current post and suspend his post-retirement leave (PRL).
The notification stated that the appointment takes effect immediately in the public interest.
While the immediate appointment is confirmed, specific terms and conditions of Rahman’s service will be determined through a formal contract. This move follows other recent changes in the central bank's top leadership, including the appointment of Executive Director Sarwar Hossain as another deputy governor.
