A massive fire broke out early Thursday at an unlicensed shoe factory in the Boubazar area of Tongi. While no casualties were reported, officials confirmed the facility was operating illegally without a fire safety license.
The blaze began at approximately 5:00 AM on May 14. According to the Fire Service and Civil Defense, the fire originated from an electrical short circuit within the five-room factory premises.
Upon receiving the alert at 5:02 AM, two firefighting units from the Tongi Fire Station, led by Senior Station Officer Shahin Alam, rushed to the scene. Firefighters managed to bring the flames under control by 5:33 AM and fully extinguished the fire by 6:03 AM.
Senior Station Officer Md. Shahin Alam confirmed that the establishment lacked both a generic operating permit and a mandatory fire clearance certificate. "The factory was operating without any legal fire safety documentation. Our initial investigation suggests a short circuit triggered the incident," he stated.
