Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam stated on Saturday that the country's trained maritime youth will soon represent Bangladesh globally, showcasing its growing capabilities.
He emphasized that building a skilled workforce is the key to advancing the nation's maritime sector.
The Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the 28th batch passing out parade at the National Maritime Institute (NMI) in Chattogram. Addressing the cadets, he remarked, "You are not just individuals; you are national assets. As you visit international ports, you will carry Bangladesh's identity and demonstrate our professionalism to the world."
He noted that maritime life involves facing unique challenges and adversities, urging the new sailors to establish themselves through determination.
Highlighting the value of vocational training, the Minister said, "While certificate-based education can sometimes lead to unemployment, skill-based technical education ensures jobs. Since the 1990s, our maritime training system has produced thousands of skilled professionals who are vital to our economy." He also assured that the government would take further steps to expand and modernize the sector.
The ceremony was attended by institute officials, teachers, and guardians, who witnessed a disciplined parade by the graduating cadets.
