The Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) formed a human chain in Narail on Wednesday to protest an artificial shortage of edible oil allegedly created by unscrupulous traders.
The protest took place at 11:00 AM in front of the Narail Press Club. People from various professions joined the Narail district branch of CAB to voice their frustrations over market manipulation.
Speakers at the event stated that profit-driven traders are holding consumers hostage by removing soybean oil and other edible oils from the shelves. This hoarding has led to a severe supply crisis, causing significant hardship for the general public.
The protesters urged the local administration to strengthen market monitoring immediately and take strict legal action against business syndicates.
The supply of edible oil in Narail has dropped sharply over the past few days, sparking widespread public anger. CAB leaders warned of tougher programs if the supply does not normalize and if traders continue to ignore government-fixed prices.
The program was attended by CAB Narail District President Malay Nandi, General Secretary Kazi Hafizur Rahman, civil society members, and local journalists.
