Residents of Nageshwari upazila formed a human chain on Wednesday to protest alleged irregularities in the construction of a dam on the right bank of the Dudhkumar River.

Hundreds of people gathered at noon in the Miapara area of Bamandanga Union. During the protest, speakers claimed the contracting firm is bypassing official regulations and executing the project at its own whim.

Protesters further alleged that when local youth raised concerns about the poor quality of work, "false extortion cases" were filed against them to silence their dissent. The speakers strongly condemned these legal actions and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the cases, warning of further agitation if the dam is not constructed according to proper specifications.

The human chain was addressed by social workers Minarul Islam, Nur Mohammad, Nur Hossain, Maidul Islam, and Idris Ali, among others.
