


Two people, including a local BNP leader, were killed in separate lightning strikes in Faridpur on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were Md. Lutfar Rahman (47), a BNP leader from Madhukhali upazila, and farmer Azahar Sheikh (40) from Sadar upazila.
Lutfar Rahman, a former general secretary of Ward No. 2 BNP in Arpara Union, was struck by lightning while working in a field near his home in Madhya Arpara village around 1:30 pm.
Locals said he suffered severe burns and was first taken to the Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where he died on the way.
Arpara Union Parishad Chairman Md. Badruzzaman Babu confirmed the incident, saying Lutfar Rahman had been working in the field when the lightning struck.
Officer-in-Charge of Madhukhali Police Station, Fakir Md. Taizur Rahman, said police received information about the death.
In a separate incident, Azahar Sheikh was killed by lightning in the Dangi area under Kotwali Police Station.
According to locals, a storm began suddenly at noon. Azahar went to bring back a cow from a nearby field when he was struck by lightning on his way home. He died at the scene.
Police said Azahar Sheikh was the son of late Hatem Sheikh of the same area.
