


Child Rights Week and the International Day of the Girl Child 2025 were observed in Islampur upazila under the initiative of the Gender-Inclusive Market Systems for Improved Nutrition (GESMIN) project.
On Monday (October 13), a drawing competition and rally were held at Shabharchar High School in Goalerchar Union with participation from students, highlighting the theme of Child Rights Week. The following day (Tuesday, October 14), a rally and discussion meeting were organized at the residence of Kuddus Ali in Shabharchar Madhyapara to mark the International Day of the Girl Child.
Implemented through a partnership between the Development Association and World Vision Bangladesh, the GESMIN project is supported by the Australian Government via the Australian NGO Cooperation Program.
The events included art, rallies, and discussions moderated by GESMIN’s Business Development Officer Rabiul Awal. Key speakers included Goalerchar Union Parishad Chairman Abdur Rahim, Shabharchar High School Head Teacher Zahurul Islam, and GESMIN Upazila Coordinator Bijon Kumar Deb, among others.
Speakers emphasized the significance of observing Child Rights Week and the Day of the Girl Child, stressing the importance of protecting children from abuse, exploitation, and neglect, and ensuring access to education, healthcare, nutrition, and opportunities for development.
Over a hundred individuals, including teachers, students, and respected community members, attended the events.
