A couple died after being hit by a truck while returning home on a motorcycle in Ishwardi, Pabna after shopping for their son's upcoming wedding. The accident occurred Wednesday evening at Alhaj Mor in Ishwardi municipal town.
The deceased were identified as Anwar Malitha (40) of Malithapara in Shahapur Union and his wife Swapna Khatun (35). According to locals, the couple's son Siyam is set to marry this Friday. The two had gone to Ishwardi town to shop for the wedding and were heading home in the evening when a speeding truck struck their motorcycle.
Swapna Khatun died at the scene. Anwar Malitha critically injured was rescued by locals and taken to Ishwardi Health Complex where he later died during treatment.
Ishwardi Police Station OC Asadur Rahman said the bodies were recovered and will be handed over to the family after legal formalities. The truck driver fled the scene and has not yet been arrested. Police said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend him.
