Manchester City secured a vital 3-1 victory over a high-flying Bournemouth side at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, lifting Pep Guardiola's team into second place in the Premier League table.

The win sees City close the gap on leaders Arsenal, who remain six points clear. The game was defined by the clinical finishing of Erling Haaland and an influential performance from midfielder Rayan Cherki.

Haaland opened the scoring in the 17th minute, capitalizing on Cherki's clever play to slot home. Bournemouth, however, quickly pulled level in the 25th minute when USMNT midfielder Tyler Adams finished following a fumble by City keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma—a goal that drew visible protests and anger from Guardiola, who felt David Brooks had fouled the goalkeeper.

Haaland swiftly restored City's lead in the 33rd minute, combining with Cherki again to round Djordje Petrovic and secure his brace before the break. The victory was sealed on the hour mark by full-back Nico O’Reilly, who drove into the box and finished expertly.

Haaland's double takes his Premier League tally for the season to a staggering 13 goals in 10 games, placing him clear at the top of the Golden Boot race. In doing so, the Norwegian achieved a rare Premier League record, becoming only the third player in history—after Robbie Fowler and Luis Suárez—to score two or more goals in four consecutive home league appearances. He is now also just two goals shy of reaching 100 Premier League goals, a milestone he is set to reach faster than any player before him.

With this result, Manchester City leapfrog Liverpool to occupy second place with 19 points from 10 games, six points behind Arsenal (25 points). Bournemouth drop from second to fourth place, level on 18 points with third-place Liverpool but trailing on goal difference. City now face a tough week of fixtures, hosting Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday before welcoming Liverpool to the Etihad for a crucial Premier League clash on Sunday.

Bournemouth will look to bounce back on the same day when they travel to Villa Park.
