Young batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi showcased a spectacular performance in the Under-19 Asia Cup opener against UAE Under-19s, scoring a blistering 95-ball 171 on Friday.
His innings was instrumental in India's massive 234-run victory. Under-19 Asia Cup Debutant Suryavanshi, who is yet to turn 15, scored 171 runs off just 95 deliveries. He fell just six runs short of the all-time India record for the highest score in a youth one-day match, which is 177, held by Ambati Rayudu since 2002.
His knock included nine fours and 14 sixes. India U-19s posted a formidable total of 433 for 6. In response, UAE U-19s managed only 199 for 7. Suryavanshi was awarded Player of the Match for his effort.
The young cricketer has a history of breaking records. Last month, he hit a 42-ball 144 against UAE in the Rising Stars Asia Cup, which included the joint-third-fastest T20 century by an Indian (off 32 balls).
He became the youngest century-maker in the tournament's history with an unbeaten 61-ball 108. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, he became the youngest to slam an IPL century (101 off 38 balls) and the youngest player ever picked in an IPL auction (at 13).
He finished the season with 252 runs at a strike rate of 206.55. He was a key player for India U-19 squads touring England and Australia, scoring a 78-ball century in a four-day fixture in Brisbane and finishing as the second-highest run-getter in the multi-day series against Australia.5 He also amassed 355 runs in the one-dayers against England U-19s.
He is a certainty for the upcoming Under-19 World Cup in Namibia and Zimbabwe.
