


Seven more children have died across Bangladesh from measles and related symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the latest fatalities, three were confirmed cases of measles, while the remaining four died with symptoms of the disease. The deaths occurred between 8:00 AM on Wednesday (May 20) and 8:00 AM on Thursday (May 21).
In its daily briefing, the DGHS also reported 1,423 new suspected measles cases across the country during this 24-hour window. This brings the total number of symptomatic cases to 59,279 since the outbreak tracking began on March 15.
Furthermore, 208 new cases were laboratory-confirmed over the past day, raising the total number of confirmed measles infections since March 15 to 8,275.
Hospital records show that 46,407 children have been admitted with measles symptoms since mid-March. Of them, 42,336 have recovered and been discharged.
The total death toll since March 15 has now reached 488. This includes 83 laboratory-confirmed measles deaths and 405 deaths of patients showing measles symptoms.
