The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained Amanullah Mahmudi Sagor (30) the prime accused in the rape and impregnation of an 11-year-old student in Madan upazila.
A team from RAB-14 apprehended Sagor from the Gauripur area of Mymensingh at approximately 4:00 AM on Wednesday. Madan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Tarikul Islam confirmed the detention, noting that the suspect is expected to be handed over to police custody by Wednesday evening.
"We will produce him before the court as soon as he is in our custody. If time permits, he will be sent today; otherwise, he will be produced tomorrow" the OC added.
RAB-14 Commanding Officer Naimul Hasan stated that further details would be shared during a press briefing scheduled for noon today (6 May).
The victim’s mother filed a case on 23 April against Sagor and one other individual after discovering her daughter was seven months pregnant. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the initial assault occurred on 2 October last year.
Sagor, the founder of the madrasah, allegedly ordered the child to clean his room after classes had ended and other students had left. When the victim resisted or cried out, he reportedly threatened her with physical violence and expulsion. The FIR further alleges the victim was raped four to five times in a room adjacent to the mosque and within the madrasah classrooms.
The matter came to light on 18 April when the mother noticed physical changes in the child and took her to a diagnostic center, where doctors confirmed she was in her third trimester.
Yesterday, Sagor appeared in a Facebook Live video from an undisclosed location, claiming innocence and demanding a DNA test. The incident has sparked widespread outrage across the country.
