


Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday inaugurated the "Farmers’ Card" pre-pilot programme promising a new era of self-reliance and economic security for the nation's agricultural community.
Speaking at the Shaheed Maruf Stadium on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh the Prime Minister emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of Bangladesh. He noted that nearly every family in the country is linked to farming making the well-being of farmers essential to national prosperity.
"Our goal is to make farmers self-reliant. Through this card, we will deliver 10 essential services directly to them," the Prime Minister said. He added that if farmers thrive the entire nation prospers.
The Prime Minister officially launched the nationwide programme at 12:22 PM. During the event he witnessed the digital transfer of Tk 2,500 each to the bank accounts of 22,067 farmers across 11 upazilas via mobile banking. In Tangail alone 1,453 farmers received the immediate cash incentive.
The government plans to distribute the Farmers’ Card to approximately 2.75 crore farmers over the next five years. After the digital launch the Prime Minister handed over cards and saplings to 15 marginal farmers sharing a lighthearted moment by asking them to send him some fruit once the trees grow.
