Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today urged police officials to embrace their 'historic responsibilities' with utmost professionalism and sincerity during the upcoming polls, which he described as an opportunity to establish a "building code" for the nation's next hundred years.
Exchanging views with Superintendents of Police (SPs) from 64 districts, Prof. Yunus stressed that the elections are not just a traditional five-year event but will include a crucial referendum on the country's future. He called on the police to act as "midwives" to facilitate the birth of a new Bangladesh, ensuring a free, fair, peaceful, and festive election that will set a global example.
The Chief Adviser emphasized that the polls represent a means of fulfilling the ideals and dreams of those who participated in the 2024 July Uprising. He became emotional while referencing the final letter of Shaheed Shahriar Khan Anas (17), urging police to work tirelessly to materialize the sacrifice and vision of the youth.
Prof. Yunus also noted that recent random SP postings were made to ensure impartiality, asking officials to accept them for the greater national interest. He promised an award for the top-performing police official.
Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani, and other officials were present at the meeting, which was conducted by IGP Baharul Alam.
