Many people believe that protein-rich foods are the only important part of an exercise diet. Social media often promotes this idea. However, nutrition experts say the rules are much simpler.

Before exercise, the body needs foods that are easy to digest and provide steady energy. Foods rich in slow-releasing carbohydrates are the best choice. After exercise, protein becomes important because it helps repair muscles and supports recovery.

Experts recommend combining carbohydrates and protein in meals whenever possible. A balanced diet supports both performance and recovery.

Nutritious Breakfast Ideas Before Exercise

1. Oats and Porridge

Oats are an excellent source of slow-releasing carbohydrates. A mixture of pinhead oats and rolled oats cooked slowly creates a creamy and filling meal.

Adding mashed banana increases its nutritional value and provides natural sweetness. If you are short on time, simple porridge with honey and pear, or apple and cinnamon, can be a healthy and appealing option.

2. Savoury Breakfast Options

People who prefer savoury foods can prepare a croissant filled with ham, cheese and green vegetables the night before and bake it in the morning.

Another quick option is a pancake made with eggs and bread. For a plant-based breakfast, try ful medames, a traditional Egyptian dish made from fava beans.

Pair it with wholemeal pita bread and boiled eggs or feta cheese for a balanced combination of carbohydrates and protein. Vegetarians can also choose scrambled tofu.

3. Smoothies for Busy Mornings

If you do not feel like eating a full breakfast, a smoothie can be a practical alternative.

A smoothie made with banana, oats, dates and cinnamon provides energy before exercise. Green smoothies are another nutritious option. Smoothies also make it easier to adjust ingredients according to individual nutritional needs.

Do Not Forget Hydration

Staying properly hydrated before, during and after exercise is essential. Drink enough water throughout the day and replace fluids lost through sweating.

Protein After Exercise

After exercise, include a source of protein in your meal or snack. Protein helps repair muscle tissue and supports recovery, making it an important part of a healthy exercise routine.
