The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has advised Bangladeshi expatriates living and working in Malaysia to strictly comply with local laws and exercise caution when using social media.
The mission also urged expatriates to follow the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and remain mindful of Malaysia’s legal, social and cultural environment.

The High Commission also advised expatriates to use social media responsibly when communicating with family members, friends and relatives.
Before posting any job-, employer- or workplace-related information, photographs or videos, expatriates should ensure that such content does not violate their employer’s policies, the advisory said.
Beware of scams, phishing and suspicious links
The mission urged Bangladeshi workers to remain cautious when dealing with unknown individuals, unfamiliar links, files and messages to protect themselves from fraud and phishing.
Expatriates were also advised to verify the authenticity of information before sharing photographs, videos or news online and to avoid suspicious or provocative online activities.
The advisory specifically warned against sharing, liking, commenting on or promoting posts, photographs, videos or messages related to terrorism, extremism or banned organisations.
Bangladeshi expatriates were also urged not to spread rumours, false information or misleading statements.
The High Commission further advised them to avoid sharing or promoting provocative or controversial content related to international conflicts—including the Israel-Palestine and Iran-Israel conflicts—if such activities could violate Malaysian laws.
They were also asked not to participate in political or online campaigns that are prohibited in Malaysia.
The High Commission advised expatriates not to post sensitive personal information—including passports, visas, national identity cards and bank details—on social media.

The advisory also urged expatriates not to participate in posts, comments or online disputes that could incite religious, ethnic or racial hatred.
Bangladeshi nationals in Malaysia were further advised to stay away from fake job advertisements, illegal visa offers, get-rich-quick schemes, suspicious investments and cryptocurrency-related promotions.
They were also instructed not to publish posts, comments or reactions that support or glorify crime, violence or illegal activities.
The High Commission's advisory is aimed at helping Bangladeshi expatriates avoid legal and security risks while using social media and living or working in Malaysia.
