A violent clash erupted between BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami supporters over a water pump at Dhaka's Pallabi Bihari camp.

A clash broke out between supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami at the Pallabi Bihari camp in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon. The violence which included blank gunfire and crude bomb explosions was sparked by a dispute over the installation of a local water pump.

Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hasan Basir confirmed the incident with stating that the confrontation began around 4:00 pm.

According to police, the altercation involved 50 to 60 Jamaat supporters led by a local activist identified as Manik. They clashed with a larger group of 200 to 250 people led by BNP supporter Sohel and local Bihari community leader Sadaqat Khan Fakku.

During the chaos, both sides engaged in chases and counter-chases. Witnesses and police reported that at least five rounds of blank shots were fired, and crude bombs (locally known as cocktails) were detonated in the area.

When asked about casualties Officer In charge Basir noted that law enforcement has not yet received any official reports of injuries.

Police quickly responded to the scene to restore order. "The situation is currently under control and additional police forces have been deployed to maintain peace in the area" Basir added.
