Indian actress Kriti Sanon, 35, has revealed that she froze her eggs several years ago to preserve her fertility and remove the pressure of a "biological clock". Speaking in a recent interview, the National Award winner shared that she underwent the procedure during a two-month break while preparing for her film Mimi.
At the time, Sanon was required to gain 15kg for her role as a surrogate mother. She decided to use that hiatus to "smartly" complete the egg-freezing process, viewing it as a "safety net". However, she admitted the process was physically and emotionally demanding. The actress experienced significant hormonal shifts, bloating, and mood swings, comparing the experience to the feelings of pregnancy.
Sanon emphasized that women should not feel rushed into marriage or motherhood due to external pressure. "Whether it's marriage or kids, you need to do it when you feel it inside... It should not come out of a clock," she stated. She also acknowledged her privilege, noting that she was fortunate to afford the procedure.
The medical process involves 10-12 days of hormone injections to stimulate egg production. These eggs are then extracted under sedation and frozen for future use. While Sanon may not eventually use the eggs, she expressed that having the option has given her peace of mind and reproductive freedom.
