Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh’s latest action-thriller, Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, is rewriting box office history. In just 12 days since its release, the film has emerged as a juggernaut, shattering long-standing domestic records.
As of Tuesday, March 31, trade reports confirm the film has amassed a staggering ₹866.13 crore at the Indian domestic box office. With this feat, Dhurandhar has officially surpassed the lifetime domestic earnings of Yash’s cult hit KGF: Chapter 2, as well as high-profile blockbusters like RRR (₹782 crore) and Kalki 2898 AD (₹646 crore).
According to tracking firm Sacnilk, the film’s momentum has been relentless since its March 9 debut. After a massive opening week that netted ₹674 crore, the film maintained its grip on the second Monday, adding another ₹19.26 crore to the tally. Analysts now predict the film is poised to enter the elite ₹1,000 crore club imminently.
The film’s success is attributed to its gritty narrative and high-octane production. The story follows Jaskirat Singh Rangi, a spy who infiltrates the Karachi underworld under the alias Hamza Ali Majani.
Ranveer Singh Delivering what critics call a career-best performance. Strong turns by R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal. A surprise role by Yami Gautam has added to the film's "must-watch" appeal.
Industry eyes are now on whether Dhurandhar can overtake the historic benchmarks set by Baahubali 2 (₹1,030 crore) and Pushpa 2 (₹1,234 crore). High-profile filmmakers, including SS Rajamouli and actor Allu Arjun, have publicly lauded Aditya Dhar’s direction.
From appearing in academic exam papers to breaking 30-year-old viewership records, Dhurandhar has evolved from a cinema release into a genuine cultural phenomenon.
