Israt Sultana Elaine Bhutto, the newly elected MP of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party from Jhalakathi-2 constituency, was showered with flowers after being elected.

Since Friday night, leaders and supporters have been greeting her at her rented house on the upazila's Animal Resources Road.

Since evening, local voters, including leaders and activists of BNP and allied organizations, from different wards and neighborhoods of nine unions and one municipality in Nalchiti upazila, started coming to her residence in groups with bouquets and garlands. In the afternoon, a huge crowd gathered in the field adjacent to her residence.

To express their greetings, leaders and activists greeted the newly elected MP with flowers and garlanded him. A festive atmosphere and joy could be seen among the people present.

Various dishes including sweets were arranged to entertain the guests. Along with the floral greetings, many also ate the food. Elaine Bhutto became emotional upon receiving such an honor.

Upazila BNP President Adv. Anichur Rahman Helal Khan, Senior Vice President Md. Shahidul Islam, Upazila Volunteer Party Convener Touhid Alam Manna and other party leaders and activists were present at the event.

In a brief speech, newly elected MP Elaine Bhutto said, "This victory is not mine, it is the victory of the golden people of Jhalakathi and Nalchiti." I promised to make Jhalakathi district free from extortion, terrorism, drugs and crime. I will do whatever is necessary to provide employment to unemployed youth through training. Government land in the possession of influential people will be recovered and playgrounds will be built.

In the national elections held on February 12, Israt Jahan Elen Bhutto was elected privately as the BNP candidate with the sheaf symbol in Jhalakathi-2 constituency by getting 113,100 votes.

Her closest rival, Jamaat-nominated candidate with the scale symbol, Sheikh Neyamul Karim, got 69,805 votes.
