Bangladesh is making significant strides in the global high-value wig market. Operating out of the Japanese Economic Zone in Narayanganj, ArtNature Bangladesh Limited is manufacturing customized, premium hair wigs for export to Japan and Singapore.
With a $14.40 million initial investment and an additional $2 million planned for this year, the 100% export-oriented facility blends modern technology with meticulous craftsmanship. Customers in Japan and Singapore receive 3D head scans, which the factory uses to tailor wigs to their exact size, shape, and color preferences. These premium custom-made wigs can retail for over $3,750.
The factory currently employs nearly 300 workers—primarily women—providing them with international-standard training and competitive wages. Crafting a single wig involves up to eight stages and takes a worker two to three months to complete. Looking ahead, ArtNature plans to hire 800 more workers and expand its export operations to Europe and the United States.
This development highlights Bangladesh's economic potential beyond traditional garment manufacturing. According to Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), government initiatives to upskill workers will accelerate growth in this specialized sector, helping Bangladesh tap into a global hair wig market projected to reach $12.6 billion by 2034
