LPG operators have assured Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku that there is no shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Bangladesh’s market.
The assurance was given by LPG importers and operators at a meeting organised by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday, Sept 28.
The meeting was held to review the country’s current LPG import volumes, stock and supply situation, market prices and related issues. Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku chaired the meeting.
The overall situation of the country’s LPG sector was presented and reviewed at the meeting.
According to data obtained from the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Bangladesh imported 157,760 metric tonnes of LPG in August 2026 and another 118,742 metric tonnes between Sept 1 and Sept 22 this year.
The data presented at the meeting indicated that the country’s LPG supply and stock situation remained satisfactory.
Based on the available supply and stock data, LPG importers and operators told the meeting that there was currently no shortage of LPG in the country.
Despite adequate stocks, Energy Minister Tuku urged stakeholders to remain vigilant so that consumers do not face supply shortages and no one can stockpile LPG with dishonest intentions and create public suffering.
The operators assured the minister of their full cooperation in maintaining supply.
The minister also heard about various obstacles faced by operators in running their businesses and directed the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to take steps to resolve the issues quickly.
Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku said the ministry would provide all possible cooperation to remove obstacles to LPG imports.
He said the government would also take all necessary measures to make people’s daily lives easier and sought everyone’s sincere cooperation in keeping the country’s overall energy situation normal.
