The Shantiganj Upazila BNP organised a protest rally and procession on Monday against what it described as a conspiracy to destabilise the country through planned violence.
BNP leaders and activists from the upazila and its affiliated organisations took part in the programme in Shantiganj on Monday afternoon.
Before the rally, the activists brought out a procession from in front of the Shantiganj Upazila administrative building. The procession passed through various roads in the area as participants chanted slogans protesting what they described as planned violence and attempts to create instability. It later ended at Shantiganj Bazar, where a protest rally was held.
Sunamganj-3 (Jagannathpur-Shantiganj) MP Mohammad Koysor Ahmed attended the rally as the chief guest.
Former upazila chairman and Sunamganj District BNP Convener Faruk Ahmad, Anchar Uddin and Shantiganj Upazila BNP Convener Jalal Uddin also addressed the gathering. Leaders and activists of BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and other affiliated organisations were present.
The speakers called for collective efforts to protect peace, stability and a democratic environment in the country.
They said people would not accept any attempt to disrupt normal life through sabotage or activities aimed at creating instability, and urged party leaders and activists to remain united against what they described as conspiracies and violence.
