The Nalchity municipal unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Dal has conducted an awareness campaign in Jhalokathi’s Nalchity to promote dengue prevention under the slogan, “Keep your own surroundings clean—prevent dengue.”
The awareness activities were carried out at different locations across Nalchity municipality on Monday, September 28. The campaign was organised at the initiative of Rakib Gazi, former convener of Nalchity Government Degree College Chhatra Dal.
During the campaign, local residents were urged to keep their homes and surrounding areas clean and prevent water from accumulating anywhere.
Residents were particularly warned that stagnant water in flower pots, buckets, drums, discarded tyres, bottles, coconut shells and other containers can provide breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, which transmit dengue.
The campaign emphasised that individual awareness, along with maintaining cleanliness at homes, educational institutions, businesses and surrounding areas, is essential for dengue prevention.
Organisers said regularly removing stagnant water and ensuring that water does not accumulate can help prevent Aedes mosquitoes from breeding.
During the campaign, various awareness messages were circulated, including: “Do not let water accumulate, do not let mosquitoes breed” and “Be aware yourself and make others aware.”
