Taylor Swift made history at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Sunday with taking home three trophies to reach a career total of 33 awards surpassing Beyoncé to become the most-awarded artist in VMA history.
Swift claimed the night’s top prize Video of the Year for her single "The Fate of Ophelia" from her album The Life of a Showgirl. She also received the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, recognizing her work writing and directing 18 music videos.
Accepting Video of the Year Taylor Swift dedicated the honor to country music icon Dolly Parton who passed away in August at age 80. Calling Parton "the ultimate showgirl" Swift praised her rich vivid storytelling. The ceremony also featured a musical tribute to Parton by Kacey Musgraves, who performed "I Will Always Love You."
Madonna led the night in total wins, securing seven awards, including Artist of the Year also Best Collaboration for "Bring Your Love" with Sabrina Carpenter and Best Dance for "Confessions II The Film." Madonna opened the ceremony with a high-energy performance alongside Carpenter and Charli XCX.
Other notable winners included K-pop star Lisa, who won Best Pop Video for her solo single "Dream" and English singer Sienna Spiro, named Best New Artist. K-pop group BTS earned awards for Song of the Year ("Swim") and Best Group.
Meanwhile iconic grunge band Nirvana received the prestigious Video Vanguard Award with surviving members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear accepting the honor.
