Chattogram district police detained 445 people during a special operation across 17 police station areas to prevent juvenile crime and keep teenagers away from criminal activities.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md Russell disclosed the information on Monday morning.
He said the operation was conducted simultaneously from Sunday evening until 10pm at various neighbourhoods, markets, railway stations, playgrounds, abandoned and secluded places, and other locations where teenagers were likely to gather.
Police brought 354 teenagers to the police stations from the 17 police station areas for questioning and verification.
After verification, 293 teenagers were handed over to their guardians on written undertakings after police found no evidence of their involvement in criminal activities.
Police took legal action against 61 teenagers after finding preliminary evidence of their involvement in offences.
In addition, 91 other people were detained over alleged involvement in drug-related and other criminal activities. Altogether, 445 people were detained during the special operation.
Additional Superintendent of Police Russell said teenagers found gathering or allegedly involved in suspicious activities were identified, questioned and screened during the operation.
Following the operation, guardians were called to the police stations and advised to be more attentive and responsible toward their children.
They were asked to regularly monitor when, where and with whom their children spend time, where they go and whether they return home at the scheduled time.
Guardians were also advised to keep track of their children’s studies, movements, friends and social media use, and to keep them away from drugs and environments associated with crime.
