Stocks opened slightly higher on Monday as investors bought recently dropped shares at lower prices though trading stayed cautious following a domestic fuel price hike.
The benchmark DSEX index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) rose 10 points or 0.18% reaching 5,543 by 11:00 am.
The market held onto modest gains despite the government’s fuel price increase as falling global oil prices helped ease concerns about higher domestic costs.
Other key indicators also moved up. The DS30 index for blue-chip stocks added 1 point to reach 2,099 while the Shariah-compliant DSES index gained 3 points to stand at 1,106.
Overall market activity leaned positive with 198 stocks advancing, 105 declining, and 81 remaining unchanged. Total turnover reached Tk.2.0 billion in the first hour of trading, reflecting ongoing investor caution. Orion Infusion led early trading with recording shares worth Tk.75 million exchanged.
Port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) mirrored the gain. The CASPI index rose 6 points to 14,789 while the CSCX index gained 10 points to hit 9,067.
