South Africa secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in their three-match ODI series against Australia after a 32-run victory in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Batting first the South Africa posted a massive 365/9 in 50 overs, driven by centuries from skipper Temba Bavuma (103) and David Miller who smashed a career-best 142 off 93 balls featuring nine sixes. Australia's Jack Edwards took 5-67.
In reply, Australia started brightly with an opening stand of 130 between Mitch Marsh (84) and Travis Head (84). However, South Africa’s spin attack Keshav Maharaj (2-54), Bjorn Fortuin (2-70) and Aiden Markram (1-55) choked the middle order, restricting Australia to 333 in 49.5 overs despite a late 50 from Xavier Bartlett. The final ODI takes place in Potchefstroom on Wednesday.
South Africa Test Squad: Cricket South Africa named an 18-player preliminary squad for next month’s three-match home Test series against Australia. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is included despite a hamstring injury while Lungi Ngidi, Kwena Maphaka and Ottneil Baartman miss out due to similar injuries. Uncapped 30-year-old batter Marques Ackerman earned his first call-up.
Cricket Australia Chair Resigns: Mike Baird stepped down as Cricket Australia chairman after Cricket New South Wales opposed the board's plan to introduce private investment into the Big Bash League (BBL). Former Australia opener David Boon will serve as interim chair starting October 28.
