


Nuzhat Anwar officially assumed her role as the Managing Director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Sunday, marking a significant leadership transition for the country’s premier bourse.
Her appointment was formally approved by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on December 18, 2025. Anwar is a veteran of the financial world with over 20 years of experience spanning banking, development finance, and capital markets. Before joining the DSE, she held several high-profile leadership positions at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.
She served as Resident Representative for Liberia and Sierra Leone. She also acted as Senior Country Officer for Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal and served as acting Cluster Manager during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nuzhat Anwar Established IFC’s presence in Botswana and Namibia, facilitating the first IFC investment in Gaborone.
Anwar’s career is deeply rooted in the Bangladeshi financial sector. Before her tenure at the IFC, she spent 16 years in senior management roles at Citibank Bangladesh and Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh.
This combination of local banking insight and global development experience is expected to provide her with a unique perspective on optimizing the DSE’s portfolio and advancing market advocacy.
She holds a Master’s degree in Commerce (Finance) from the University of Dhaka, underscoring her strong academic and professional ties to the nation's financial capital.
