A 15-year-old schoolgirl was killed and her younger sister injured when a stone-laden truck lost control and overturned onto their home in Narail's Lohagara upazila early Sunday.
The tragic incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the Khalpar area of Naldi village. The deceased, Shamima Akter Setu, was an eighth-grade student at the local Naldi BSS Secondary School. Her 12-year-old sister, Mitu Khanam, sustained injuries but was discharged from the hospital after receiving primary treatment. Both are daughters of local resident Hafizar Molya.
According to locals, the sisters were asleep when the truck lost control on the adjacent road, crushing their room beneath the vehicle and its heavy cargo. Neighbors immediately rushed to the scene, clearing the stones to rescue the trapped girls. They were rushed to Narail District Hospital, where emergency room doctors declared Shamima dead on arrival.
Naldi Police Camp In-Charge, Sub-Inspector Md. Azizur Rahman, confirmed the incident. "The driver and his assistant abandoned the truck at the scene and fled. We have impounded the vehicle, and legal action is underway," he stated.
