Police arrested a 55-year-old man with 34 liters of illicit country-made liquor in Naogaon's Porsha upazila on Monday.
The arrestee, Rostam Ali, is a resident of Nitpur West Raghunathpur village.
Porsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ziaur Rahman stated that, acting on a tip-off, police learned a man was selling liquor from a boat on the Punarbhaba River to local drug addicts. A police team promptly raided the riverbank and caught Rostam red-handed.
During the search, officers recovered 34 liters of illicit liquor stored in various jars and plastic bottles.
The raid was part of an ongoing anti-drug campaign directed by Naogaon District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tariqul Islam.
A case has been filed against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act, and legal proceedings are underway, the OC added. The district police affirmed that such drives will continue to ensure a drug-free society.
