Following its success in Dhaka, the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) is introducing an artificial intelligence (AI)-based traffic management system to Chittagong. Feasibility studies for installing smart cameras at major city intersections have already begun.
With many existing traffic lights out of order, police currently rely on hand signals. This outdated method—combined with illegal parking, erratic lane changes, and frequent traffic violations—creates severe daily gridlock across the city.
Under the new plan, AI technology will monitor real-time vehicle flow to automate traffic signals and ease congestion. Additionally, AI-powered cameras will detect and record traffic violations to improve road safety and driver accountability.
