Hundreds of passengers are stranded at Comilla's Laksam Railway Station after the Sylhet-bound Udayan Express experienced a complete electrical failure late Thursday night.
Leaving Chittagong around 9:30 PM, the train suffered a massive power outage shortly after arriving at Laksam at 12:15 AM. The breakdown, which disabled power to both the engine and the passenger compartments, has left approximately 500 travelers in the dark.
The prolonged delay has caused severe discomfort, particularly for women, children, and the elderly. With carriage fans disabled by the outage, many passengers have been forced to leave the sweltering compartments and wait on the dark platform. Mobile footage from the station shows frustrated passengers using hand fans to cope with the heat.
"The train hasn't felt right since we left Chittagong," passenger Bappi Tanchangya said by phone. "The entire train went completely dark at Laksam. We've been waiting for over two hours and still have no idea when the journey will resume."
Laksam Railway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jasim Uddin Khandaker confirmed the incident at 1:15 AM. He stated that railway engineers are actively working to restore power and get the train moving.
To ensure the security of the stranded passengers in the dark, railway police have intensified patrols across the station platform.
