Faridpur district BNP Joint Convener Zulfiqar Hossain Jewel has demanded the immediate withdrawal of Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudul Hasan, accusing him of operating with a "fascist agenda."
Speaking at a press conference at the Faridpur Press Club on Thursday evening, Zulfiqar threatened to launch a local movement if the OC is not removed from his post.
The BNP leader stated the conflict began on Wednesday afternoon when his associate, Aryan Khan Shihab, was severely beaten by a group of youths near the city's Janata Bank intersection. Zulfiqar alleged that the OC ignored his calls for assistance. Furthermore, after Zulfiqar's supporters caught one of the alleged attackers, Afridi, and handed him over to the police, the OC reportedly released him without charges. Citing police inaction, Zulfiqar expressed concerns for his personal safety.
However, OC Mahmudul Hasan dismissed the allegations, clarifying that neither the BNP leader nor his associate had filed a formal police complaint regarding the attack.
The OC also provided a conflicting motive for the altercation. He claimed the dispute stemmed from a personal conflict, alleging that Aryan had been blackmailing a female former colleague with sensitive footage for several months, which ultimately provoked the fight.
Addressing the demand for his removal, the OC remained unfazed. "Anyone can ask for the withdrawal of a police station OC. If the government decides to transfer me, I am fully prepared for it," he said.
