


University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed stated on Sunday that regular training and technology-based teaching are vital for upgrading the quality of higher education in Bangladesh.
He made these remarks while inaugurating a four-month basic training program, "Professional Development Training for University Faculty," at the Bangladesh Open University (BOU) Gazipur campus. The program is part of the UGC’s HIT project, funded by the World Bank, aimed at modernizing teaching methods and enhancing professional skills.
Strengthening Teacher-Student Bonds
Professor Ahmed highlighted that the residential nature of the training aims to build strong networks and mutual understanding among educators. "This training will help bridge the current gap between teachers and students," he said. He emphasized that a research-oriented mindset and digital proficiency are no longer optional but necessary for national welfare.
BOU’s Role in Higher Education
BOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, who presided over the event, noted that the university has spent three decades bringing education to marginalized communities. He expressed hope that this specialized training would help align Bangladesh’s higher education with international standards.
Program Details
A total of 59 teachers from 33 public and private universities are participating in the third and fourth batches of this program. The curriculum covers of Modern teaching techniques and student-centered learning. The use of digital technology in classrooms.Research capacity building and academic leadership development.
The event was attended by UGC members, World Bank consultants, and senior university officials.
