The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the main accused in a rape case from Bhola's Monpura Upazila. Md. Saidur Rahman (30) son of Mohammad Yunus of Charfaizuddin village in Hazirhat Union was detained during an operation in Borhanuddin Upazila on Saturday night.

RAB-8 Bhola Camp Commander Lt Cdr B. M. Tanjimul Islam said Saidur Rahman had raped a housewife on June 25, after which the victim filed a case at Monpura Police Station.

According to the case report, a local woman, Mainur Begum invited the victim to her home on the pretext of work, then left her alone before Saidur Rahman arrived and assaulted her. When the victim screamed, locals apprehended him but Mainur Begum later intervened and had him released and claiming she would investigate the matter herself.

When the victim attempted to file a case three days later Monpura Police Station reportedly declined to register it. She then approached the Bhola Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal, which on July 6 ordered police to accept the complaint. A case was subsequently filed against both Saidur Rahman and Mainur Begum.

Since then, the victim said she and her family have faced repeated threats and lived in fear as the main accused remained at large.

RAB said it launched intelligence operations immediately after the incident, leading to Saidur Rahman's arrest. He has been handed over to Borhanuddin Police Station for legal proceedings.
