The mechanical failure of a private ambulance near Shakdah Bridge and the emergency transfer of critical patients have been confirmed by hospital sources.

Allegations surrounding a recent ambulance breakdown in Tala Upazila have sparked local controversy prompting Tala Hospital’s Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr. Khalid Hasan Nayan to dismiss the claims as a deliberate smear campaign.

The incident occurred on Monday night when two ambulances one government-owned and one private departed Tala Hospital for Satkhira, each carrying a critical patient.

According to hospital sources, the private ambulance experienced a sudden mechanical failure near the Shakdah Bridge in Patkelghata.

Given the risk to the patients' lives, an urgent decision was made to transfer both individuals to another ambulance to safely reach their destination. Hospital staff maintain that this rapid response was a purely humanitarian effort to handle a medical emergency.

Following the incident, allegations were raised against Dr. Nayan. While the specifics of the complaints remain vague colleagues and close associates of the RMO claim a vested group is intentionally distorting the events to humiliate him socially.

Dr. Nayan strongly denied any wrongdoing. "The allegations against me are completely baseless and motivated," he stated. "Both ambulances were carrying dying patients. When one vehicle broke down, immediate action was necessary to save their lives. There was no personal interest involved here the decision was driven solely by humanitarian responsibility."

He also condemned unverified reports published by several online portals describing them as an organized attempt to damage his reputation.

Local community members have expressed concern over the dispute, noting that the spread of unverified information is creating public confusion and damaging trust in local healthcare services.

They have urged authorities to conduct an impartial investigation to uncover the actual facts of the incident.
