Two Russian Navy ships, 'Rezkiy' and 'Soverchenny', arrived at Chattogram Port on Tuesday for a four-day goodwill visit. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed their arrival, noting that the visit aims to strengthen maritime cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Umar Farooq formally received the vessels as they entered Bangladeshi territorial waters. Upon reaching the port, the Chief Staff Officer of the Chattogram Naval Area welcomed the captains, officers, and sailors. The ceremony was attended by the Russian Deputy Ambassador to Bangladesh, along with senior military and naval officials.
According to the ISPR, the Russian delegation will hold courtesy meetings with the Commander of the Chattogram Naval Area, the Chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority, and other key officials.
As part of their itinerary, the Russian sailors will lay wreaths at Redkin Point—the burial site of Soviet sailor Yuri Redkin at the Bangladesh Naval Academy—to honor his sacrifice during the post-liberation mine-clearing operations. The crews will also visit local historical and tourist sites.
This visit provides a platform for naval officers from both nations to exchange professional expertise and tour each other’s training facilities. Such engagements are expected to further bolster the long-standing friendly relations and mutual cooperation between the two navies.
The Russian ships are scheduled to depart on March 27, 2026.
