Former IGP-Mayor IV-Mumtaz's Eid in Kashimpur Prison

On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, prisoners at Kashimpur Central Prison in Gazipur were given new clothes, special meals, and organized Eid congregations. Children at the prison’s day-care center received chocolates, cakes, chips, and new clothes.

Senior Jail Superintendent Abdullah Al Mamun said Kashimpur High Security Central Prison houses 2,600 inmates, including 1,426 on death row and 408 serving life sentences. Before Eid, 40 lungis, 50 punjabis, 50 chenjis, and gamchas were distributed among prisoners. Seventeen Eid congregations were held, and meals included payes and muri in the morning, meat, polao, salad, and soft drinks at noon, and white rice, rui fish, potato stew, sweets, and betel nuts in the evening. Notable inmates include former Chief Whip Asam Firoz, former Narail MP Kabirul Haque Mukti, former IGP Md. Shahidul Haque, and journalists Shyamal Dutta, Mozameshal Haque Babu, and Shakil Ahmed. Cultural programs and football matches were also organized.

Kashimpur Prison Part-1, under Superintendent Nazrul Islam, has 1,204 inmates, including more than 100 sentenced to death and over 50 serving life sentences. Three Eid congregations were held, and indigent prisoners received 60 lungis and 25 punjabis. Meals were similar to Part-1.

Kashimpur Prison Part-2, with more than 3,800 prisoners, held seven Eid congregations. Two hundred indigent prisoners received shirts, 200 received punjabis, and 100 received lungis. Notable inmates include former advisor Tawfiq-e-Elahi and Md. Matiur Rahman.

At Kashimpur Central Women’s Prison, Superintendent Shirin Akhter said the prison houses 644 inmates, including 33 children, 36 death row convicts, and 66 serving life sentences. Notable prisoners include former Narayanganj mayor Dr. Ivy Rahman, former MP Momtaz Begum, and MP Tuhin. Twenty-one underprivileged prisoners received three-piece sarees, and children were given sweets, cakes, chocolates, and new clothes. Meals included payes and muri in the morning, meat, pulao, salad, sweets, and soft drinks at noon, and white rice, potato stew, and rui fish at night. Visitors received rajnigandha sticks, juice, and chocolate.

The Eid celebrations aimed to provide a sense of normalcy and joy to inmates and their children during the festive occasion.
