State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin Putul stated that canal excavation projects will create significant employment opportunities for rural communities. She noted that these initiatives allow local residents to work within their own areas, contributing to both agricultural development and improved living standards.
The State Minister made these remarks as the chief guest during the inauguration of a 4-kilometer excavation project at Padmakol in Mandalpara, Hemayetpur, on Monday afternoon.
Highlighting the historical context of such projects, she said the public has warmly embraced these initiatives. She drew a parallel between the rapid development seen under martyred President Ziaur Rahman and current efforts led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to usher in an "agricultural industrial revolution."
Addressing critics of the project, Farzana Sharmin said, "We must not forget our roots. Those who do risk being uprooted, as history shown on August 5th."
She further emphasized the government's commitment to rapid development, citing the launch of the Family Card project within a week of taking office and the waiver of 10,000 BDT in agricultural loans during the first cabinet meeting.
The 4-kilometer canal, stretching from Mandalpara to Nazirpur, is being excavated under the supervision of the Pabna Water Development Board. The project aims to resolve waterlogging, provide irrigation during the dry season, and promote natural fish production.
The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shahed Mostafa. Other attendees included Pabna-5 MP Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Pabna-2 MP Advocate AKM Selim Reza Habib, District BNP Convener Habibur Rahman Habib, Police Superintendent Anwar Zahid, and District BNP Member Secretary Advocate Maksudur Rahman Masud Khandaker. Following the ceremony, the State Minister held meetings at the BNP party office and the Pabna Press Club.
