Police have recovered the bodies of a grandmother and her teenage granddaughter from Bhavanipur village in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna.
The deceased were identified as Sufia Khatun, 65, and her granddaughter Jamila Akhter, 15. They lived in Bhavanipur Uttarpara under Dashuria Union. According to police, only the two of them stayed in the house, while Jamila’s father works in Dhaka.
Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi Police Station, Md. Mominuzzaman, confirmed the incident on Saturday (February 28).
Locals said they heard cries from the house around midnight. When neighbours came out, the sound stopped. Early in the morning, Sufia Khatun’s blood-stained body was found in the courtyard. During a search, Jamila’s body was recovered from a nearby mustard field.
Police suspect the grandmother may have been killed when she tried to resist attackers. Investigators are also examining allegations of sexual assault before the teenager was killed.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Ishwardi Circle) Pranab Kumar said an investigation is underway and those involved will be brought to justice.
The bodies were sent to Pabna General Hospital for autopsy. A case is being prepared.
