BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman has declared that the era of "dummy elections" is over, urging citizens to guard their votes in the upcoming national polls.
Addressing a massive election rally in Kanchpur early Sunday morning, Rahman spoke to thousands who gathered despite the severe winter cold. He emphasized that the February 12 election must be fair and participatory, serving as a mandate against the "conspiracies" of the past 15 years.
Rahman identified corruption, terrorism, and narcotics as the primary hurdles for Narayanganj. "Uprooting these problems is a top priority for the BNP," he stated, promising a safe environment for both women and the business community.
He pledged to restore the district’s natural drainage by re-excavating encroached canals and drains.
Vowing strict action against the open drug trade in the city, he warned that "no one will be spared, regardless of their identity."
Plans include rebuilding broken roads and schools, alongside creating local and international employment through vocational training.
A new "Family Card" initiative for low-income households, primarily managed by mothers and housewives, providing 7–10 days of food or cash assistance monthly.
Criticizing the previous decade's electoral history, the BNP leader urged supporters to reach polling stations early on the morning of February 12. "A fair election is only possible when the people participate and protect their right to vote," he added.
The rally was chaired by Narayanganj District BNP Convener Professor Mamun Mahmud and featured candidates from across the district's constituencies, including Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan Dipu (Narayanganj-1) and Azharul Islam Mannan (Narayanganj-3).
