Chakaria Madrasa Student Killed Under Truck Wheels

An 11-year-old madrasa student was killed in a road accident in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, on Saturday morning.

The victim, Tanhа Moni, a fifth-grade student, was traveling to her madrasa in an easy bike when the vehicle overturned near Kahariaghona Station in Ward 5 of Chakaria Municipality. She fell onto the road and was run over by an oncoming sand-carrying truck.

Tanha was the daughter of Mawlana Jafar Alam of South Kahariaghona in Chakaria Municipality. She studied in the fifth grade at the local Magbazar Women’s Madrasa. Her father is a teacher at Chakaria Girls’ High School and vice-president of the Chakaria Chiringa Multipurpose Cooperative Society.

According to witnesses, the easy bike overturned while attempting to pass the sand truck. Tanha fell to the right side of the road and was struck by the truck. She died at the scene. Another female student traveling in the easy bike was thrown to the left side of the road and survived.

Police seized the truck after arriving at the scene. However, the driver and his assistant fled immediately after the accident.

Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman said the truck had been seized and police were working to locate the driver and his assistant.

He said Tanha’s body was handed over to her family without an autopsy after relatives submitted a request and said they had no complaint regarding the death.

The accident has left the local community in mourning.
