Bayern Munich produced a dominant performance to crush Atalanta 6-1 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.
Bayern raced to a three-goal lead within 25 minutes through Josip Stanisic, Michael Olise and Serge Gnabry.
Goals from Nicolas Jackson, a second from Olise and Jamal Musiala sealed the rout before Mario Pasalic scored a late consolation for Atalanta. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany urged caution despite the big win ahead of the return leg in Munich.
In another tie, Barcelona rescued a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United after teenage star Lamine Yamal converted a stoppage-time penalty.
Newcastle had looked set for victory when Harvey Barnes scored in the 86th minute, but Yamal’s last-gasp strike kept the tie level ahead of the second leg in Spain.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 in Madrid. Early errors from Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky allowed goals from Marcos Llorente, Antoine Griezmann and two from Julian Alvarez, with Robin Le Normand also scoring.
Spurs replied through Pedro Porro and Dominic Solanke, but Atletico carry a strong three-goal advantage into the second leg in London.
