The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced its election schedule, setting the vote for June 7 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. This marks the second BCB election in just eight months, following the sudden dissolution of the previous board.
In a departure from the last election which was hosted at a luxury hotel this vote will take place inside the BCB boardroom. Polling is scheduled from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with results expected by 6:00 PM. The election for the board's president and vice presidents may also conclude that same evening.
The Election Roadmap
According to the schedule, a draft voter list will be published on Sunday at 4:00 PM. Following a brief window for objections and hearings, the final voter list will be released on Tuesday evening.
Nomination papers will be distributed on Wednesday and Thursday, with submissions accepted on Thursday and Friday. The deadline for candidate withdrawals is May 25, after which the final contestant list will be published.
A three-member election commission, headed by senior Supreme Court lawyer Ahsanul Karim, is overseeing the process. The commission also includes Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Israel Hawlader and National Sports Council (NSC) Deputy Secretary ABM Ehsanul Mamun.
Structural Framework and Background
The BCB structure requires candidates to be councilors to contest for a director's post. Councilors will vote to elect 23 directors across three categories, while the NSC will directly nominate two more. These 25 directors will then vote to choose the new BCB president and vice presidents. Around 192 councilors are expected to participate.
This swift election follows intense administrative turmoil. The previous board, formed on October 6 with Aminul Islam Bulbul as president, faced heavy criticism and boycotts over alleged irregularities. Following an investigation, the NSC dissolved Bulbul’s board on April 7.
An 11-member ad-hoc committee led by former national captain Tamim Iqbal was then tasked with organizing fresh, credible elections within three months, culminating in the upcoming June 7 polls.
