Wolverhampton Wanderers finally ended their historically dismal start to the season on Saturday, dominanting West Ham 3-0 at Molineux to claim their first Premier League victory in 20 matches.
The win marks the longest a team has ever waited for a first victory in a Premier League campaign since the league's 1992 debut. The performance offered much-needed relief for a side that had not won a league match since April 26 of last year.
Wolves effectively ended the contest in the first half with goals from Jhon Arias, Hwang Hee-chan, and Mateus Mané. Despite the three points, Wolves remain at the bottom of the table with six points—12 away from the safety zone—but they have closed the gap on 19th-place Burnley, who lost 2-0 to Brighton on Saturday.
For West Ham, the defeat deepens their own crisis. The Hammers remain in the relegation zone, sitting third-from-bottom and four points away from safety. With 18 games remaining, Wolves still face a monumental climb to avoid the drop, but Saturday’s result provides a glimmer of hope for a late-season survival bid.
