Police have arrested a suspect connected to the fatal beating of a 70-year-old garage janitor, Md. Siddique in Chattogram's Mansurabad area.
Officers from the Doublemooring Police Station recovered Siddique’s body, which bore multiple injury marks, from a local garage early Thursday (July 16) morning after receiving reports from local residents.
Doublemooring Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinur Alam stated the murder likely stemmed from a recent theft. A battery was stolen from the garage a few days prior, and Siddique had been actively pressuring those involved to return it. Police suspect the perpetrators beat the elderly man to death on Wednesday night in retaliation, leaving his body at the scene.
Authorities have sent the body to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for an autopsy. While one suspect is currently in custody, police operations are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in the killing.
